is rubbing on the frame or the fender liner, but only makes contact when the engine tilts forward under load when you back up. The engine tilts quite a bit when you start moving in first gear or reverse, but then it settles back down. This would explain the 1-2 second duration of the noise. Or perhaps it is the upper or lower- rear motor mounts rubbing on something.

Have a helper put the car in reverse and slip the clutch a bit with the emergency brake on (or chock the rear wheels for maximum engine movement). You can look in the engine bay to try and pinpont where the noise is coming from.
