for the FI system disconection is not an immediate reaction but over a short time of running you will see a fault develope and you will eventually get a check engine light. Since the O2 sensor is disconnected your check engine light will not be as a result of faulty mixture detection but because the diagnostics is interrupted. Some cars respond more quickly than others - a function of the driver's foot! BTW a failed O2 sensor causes the FI to revert to a default position set in your computer. Depending on how close you are running to this default position determines how quickly you will notice a problem.
