Sorry, the 'resident expert' was out visiting the lowest glacier in the continental US of A today, nice 7 mile hike. :)

Phil pretty much nailed it. For a subwoofer, assuming you use the built in low pass crossover on whichever amp you get, I doubt very much you will be able to tell the difference bewtween speaker level inputs or RCA inputs, which stock stereos don't have.

100-300W RMS is plenty, though actually for that Blaupunkt 10", I don't think I'd go over 200W RMS. More power isn't going to hurt, as long as you keep the distortion of the subwoofer at a small level, but why pay for power you won't use? I have only 100W RMS available to my subwoofer, which has both more cone area and more throw than that Blaupunkt, and it's plenty loud. It's been measured at 137 dB before, and while there may be a slight reduction with the lower power I have available now, it's at most a 3-4 dB reduction. That still puts it above the threshhold of pain.

Anyhoo..

I assume you checked Midwest Electronics for that Blaupunkt driver? They have, by far, the best prices on anything Blaupunkt. Trouble is, they don't carry much of the new lines, they deal in slightly older stuff (though still brand new in almost all cases). Worth a look anyway.

As for the box, if you want something to fit a particular spot exactly, you'll need to make it yourself, or have someone else do it. The former is cheap, but only if you have the proper tools - jigsaw or router (to cut the driver hole), drill to screw the box together, caulking gun and caulking, and if you don't live by a store that will cut wood for you, you'll need either skill saw or table saw to make straight cuts. A jigsaw CAN be used, but it's far from ideal. But anyhoo, if you have none of these tools, and you're only making one box, it will come out much cheaper to pay someone else to do it. We haven't even gotten into covering yet..paint, carpet, etc.. Don't forget polyfill/dacron/wool inside it, plug a terminal cup and miscellaneous screws, and a bit of wire.

If you can afford it, Baltic Birch is the best material to make a box out of, followed by marine grade plywood, regular plywood, MDF, particle board, and other junk such as waferboard or actual lumber. :) All 3/4", by the way. If your box is as small as I think it will be, probably won't need any bracing, though adding it won't hurt.

Good luck!
