Is my battery or my alternator??
Drove this morning for 10 minutes down the freeway. Stopped to get some gas and then couldn't start the car. I had to pull out the jumper cables to start the car.
The voltmeter in the dash when starting the car, has been dipping down to 10.5 and lower the last few days. But when driving, it hovers around 13.3/13.5.
I went home, checked the battery charge with one of those liquid battery testers (the ones with the float balls, 1=zero charge, 5=fully charged) and it indicated that all the cells were about half charged.
So, how do I tell if the battery is not getting charged or if the battery is not holding a charge?
Could it be that in the past 6 months, I’ve switched jobs so I’m driving less than a mile to work each day and it’s not getting a good charge over this period of time?
Thanks in advance for your help.
