Often using a Welders Hammer.. the kind with a"pick" end for removing Slag/flux... will work in removing the rust buildup on Caliper Castings.
Worry about the fact that the castings will be at least an 1/8" thinner as a result tho :-)
Found that My local wholesale Brake Distributor sells 'Quality rebuilt' Girling calipers for a 9kT for $70 each with a 12 month warrantee.. where he also sells the Caliper rubber bits kit for $35. The rebuilt units use non rusted castings tho... double bonus.
Perhaps you should hunt around at the Wholesale Supplier price level.. surely rebuilds can't be that price everywhere.
