If your sure its the fuel pump, (best to check for 12 volts at the pump while starting) have somebody smack the fuel pump with a short length of 2X4 while your starting. I drove from Philly to Chicago like that once, Had to get out about once an hour and smack the pump.
When the brushes wear out the impact can get them to touch the armature and get just a little more use out of them.
I've used the same trick on starter motors both in the car and on helocopters at work. Much better to do the repair in your own shop or garage or hanger.
