... as long as you disconnect the DI completely (unplug the multi-way connector). It is cranking the DI with no plugs connected (or the plugs not earthed) that can cause problems, when the high voltage has nowhere to go so it finds its own path and damages things on the way, usually the DI cassette.
If you remove the plugs too, cranking will be a lot easier as you won't have any compression to work against.
