I installed the shocks, and the rear end seems to ride a bit higher and feel firmer. I imagine it has solved the rubbing problem, and probably the tire cupping. I'm surprised the original Boge shocks needed replacing this soon, the tire rub started occurring with less than 60K on the car. Most have reported very long life with these shocks. As others have mentioned, tightening the bolts that attach the sway bar hanging brackets to the chassis cured the rattle. I was also able to snug up a few other bolts while I was under there.
