If you have a newer-gen 9K with the plastic, painted rear spoiler, I'd like to know how your's is fixed to the hatch. I refer not to the rubberized type found on '86-'92's, but presumably those installed on '93-'98 cars.

Mine has three screws, one in the middle and two on the ends--but the parts manual shows two additional screws between the center and end screws. The center screw is attached to a large plastic sphere (~1" diam.) that is slightly larger that a hole in the spoiler. When the disk pops into the spoiler it fixes itself firmly (theoretically), but allows a break-away feature in case the spoiler is bumped. The problem is that mine breaks away with normal opening and closing of the hatch, even when I'm careful. Re-fixing it requires removing the hatch liner, which is a minor PITA.

The spoiler has two slots and the hatch two holes ready for the two additional screws, but mine apparently were not installed at the factory.
I'd like to know if others have had this problem and if their cars have the additional two screws located between the center and end screws.
You should be able to tell by gently lifting the spoiler from the hatch about 1/4 and 3/4 of the way down. It is flexible and mine reveals the lack of these screws.
