I am by no means the expert here, but having had difficulties with my 92, here is what I've learned: 1)If you can't get your hands on any more R-12 then the system must be recharged with r-134. 2)As I understand it, an R-12 system as is can't handle R-134 so you must get an R-134 retrofit ($$$) 3)If you are desperate for a cheap fix and can find some way to find more R-12 (start calling friends) there are several companies which make Stop leak-like products for A/C units. If you do a search on the internet, you can find some of the products. Interestingly, these a/c leak stops aren't too popular amongst most mechanics who haven't used them but are slowly gaining popularity. One company is aiming at the Mercedes market since the a/c in those cars break so often and are so difficult and expensive to fix.
One important note to this is that you need to find out where the leak is because some leak stops only work in the pipes and condensor but not in the compressor while Castrol's only works on compressor gasket and valve leaks. I used the Castrol product since I apparently have a gasket problem on my compressor, but while it slowed the leak I still need to buy myself a rebuild when I have the cash.
