Once yer car is on stands, use the crawler and get under it, first remove the starter power leads.. you did disconnect the battery?.. then the two mounting bolts, you should find then relatively easy to access/remove using a 6" extension, then simply wiggle the thing down and out.
Reinstalling is a bit trickier cuz you have to hold it up in place while you get the first bolt started. Be surprised if you have difficulties.
I just took a look at the thing and figured 'out the top' was too hard to bother with... practice really got the times down tho :-).
I understand the $$ problem all too well , but a "worth-owning" new machine is about $10 a day.. however circumstances are personal and offer no comment.
But the 'Souless' part is what people who don't own one claim as a rationalisation..it simply isn't accurate.. the feel of V-Tech cutting in at 5krpms onna V6 is every bit as 'thrilling' as "boost" onna 2.3.. and every bit as dramatic.
You do have a point about "repair day" though.. it is (usually) entertaining to 'fix' the car..but doubly so when it doesn't matter if you succeeed.
