Happened to me on my '98. Whistling would increase in pitch as speed increased. I would only hear the sound under engine load (meaning, it wouldn't happen when sitting in my driveway in "P"ark). Turned out to be the blower motor dying. Had it replaced (under warranty--yeah!) and sound disappeared.

I was able to re-create the sound for the dealer to hear it:
0) Leave engine running and car in "D" (if auto) the whole time
1) Set ACC to 72
2) When cabin temp stabilizes, set ACC to 70 (blower should kick on)
3) As blower starts to turn, the whistling could be heard

It could also be any of the before-mentioned topics that people have told you. I also experienced a sound coming from the windshield (more of a rumbling/buffeting sound) that turned out to be my driver's-side windshield wiper vibrating at speeds of 55+ mph. Replaced the whole blade, and sound disappeared.
