After failing two upper engine torque mounts attached to engine about 50K miles per failure.(2.0 Turbo engine 9000 car) I started looking for possible cause. Noticed that the fixture bolted to the body causes the bolt at the engine to cause the front mount bushing ( at the engine side) to be cocked in the fork part of the "dog bone" When removing the fixture from the body that holds the firewall mount(rear, vertical bolt) find 3 short bushings under the bolt heads holding fixture. With those bolts and "spacers" removed the mount has a gap between the fixture and the body about the same thickness as the three spacers. Did some one put the spacers on the wrong side of the mount at the factory. Checking other Saabs (but only 2.3s) seem to have same spacers and cocked mount also (also cracked rubber). Any one ever noticed this and is it wrong? Placing the spacers between the fixture and body will put the bolts into bending rather than shear attachment- this may not be too good structurally. Just interested in knowing other's opinions/suggestions/cures. Thanks in advance.
