After further reading I found the trick to getting of the mirror switch plate on the door. Wow, much easier! but alas, I got the door apart and can't get the problem fixed, today at least. There is a small plastic piece with a metal rod with a ball end that is attatched to the lock mechanism. this metal rod is broken off where it attatches. so that's why my doors won't lock and unlock from the outside, and also my alarm won't activate. Also, I can see how the door latch pulls from the outside, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it work properly. There's a metal bar in there that it pulls...... someone suggested all that was needed was to bend it. Well, it's pretty rigid metal. I guess I need to take out the whole assembly?? And what to do about that broken metal piece for the lock?
