Shift coupler problem

OK, I give up! How are you supposed to get the taper pin out of the shift coupler? I woke up early (couldn't sleep) and thought, "Gee, I have a couple of hours, I think I'll replace the shift coupler and shift shaft seal on the '95 9000." Man was I wrong. On the 900, you can get to the pin to get it out. On the 9000, well, I am at a loss. Is there a 'saab tool' for this? Does anyone have one? I tried tapping (right, where are you supposed to swing anything. If you could, you would not get anywhere because the pin hole is about 40ft down the shaft from the case.) I went, almost immediately, to the C-clamp, socket trick. Socket over the small side and the clamp over the nut. I cranked until it popped off once and until I yielded the pin once. It is still in there. Any suggestions? Is there a trick here that I am missing? I am going to Mid Ohio today, so I have to put it back together now, though.
tia,
KeithG
