I use the metal clamp available from Saab (and most of the mail order places on the BB). This clamp is too critical to skimp on. Unless you feel like inspecting it every day or so to find out if the wrong clamp has decided to fly off, get the right one. On some cars there is also a clearance issue with some of the hub hardware, so some clamps won't fit.
I agree with Quasi, a clamp crimping tool is cheap. I happen to have a wire nipper, which is a wire cutter that cuts from the front, not the side. It works fine as a clamp crimper. Since it's quite cheap, the cutters have lost their edge, so they don't cut the clamp.
