IMHO, Sub to me stands for sub-sonic. Thats the bass you feel instead of hear. Sound goes down to well, 0 Hz but the best human ear can only recignize down to 20 Hz. So its really a mater of preferance and again, your type of Music. None of what I listen to has much content in that frequency range, and if your listening to the radio they don't even transmit it (normal AM & FM). I'm sure my kids would disagree, but their CD's never seem to work right on the road, they seem to eject when they aren't looking.
Compo's have always sounded better to me, I'd gather it allows more freedom in the speaker design. I'd highly recomend a good quality amp for the rear speakers, even if you never turn it up, as higher end amps seem to reproduce music better. Again, like it looks like your doing, try to compare sound before you buy. Personally I have Infinity Reference at home and in the car's.
