The ABS light being on constantly is a sign that the ABS system has detected an internal fault. Just start the car, and don't drive off. The Brake Fluid light will go out. If the ABS light doesn't go out, then the ABS system has detected a problem at start-up. The ABS system does a few tests. One thing it does is make sure all the wheel sensors have approximately the same resistance. If the light isn't going off and you haven't started moving (moving allows a different set of tests), I'd assume you have a bad wheel sensor. It could be a bad sensor, bad cable (integral to the sensor), or just a bad connection at where the sensor cable connects to the harness. The solution is to find out which sensor is giving a problem (a dealer can read out the code and determine which sensor it is) and see about fixing it. Reseating the connectors is a good start.

That's different than the Brake Fluid light coming on. Yes, the ABS pump runs and pressurizes the accumulator. But the light coming on after 7 pumps isn't good. Wait until the ABS pump turns off. The Brake Fluid light turns off at 105 bar, but the pump should keep running until you hit 180 bar. Listen for the buzz of the pump to stop. Then hit the brake pedal HARD and FAST. It should take 12-15, or more, hard fast hits of the pedal for the light to come on. If you wait until the pump shuts off, and the light comes on in 3 or 5 or 7 pumps, that's a problem.

This is usually due to a bad pressure accumulator, specifically a leaky diaphram. The accumulator (the sphere) has a flexible diaphram - one side has nitrogen gas, the other side brake fluid. If the diaphram leaks, you get brake fluid on both sides, and lots of gas in the brake fluid. Yes, you can pressurize the system, but you have no 'throw'. The system loses pressure quickly.

The first thing I'd do is flush the DOT5 out. The system is DEFINATELY NOT designed for DOT5, and it'll eat the rubber and seals. A brake flush isn't hard to do. If the Brake Fluid light still comes on after only a few pedal pushes, I'd assume that either the accumulator is shot, or the ABS pump is cutting off too soon, with my money on a bad accumulator.

The system will not be damaged by going back to DOT4. That's what it's designed for, and DOT5 is damaging.

I don't believe the issue is fluid foaming or anything that complex. I think it's a bad accumulator that's also filled the fluid with nitrogen, which compresses. Flush and see where you're at.

Good luck!
