I have a '93 9K cset with AT. Well I never liked the way the car shifted form the 3rd to the 4th gear - it was to jerky and somewhat harsh. I decided to mess with the kickdown cable which can be adjusted by unscrewing a nut (in the back of the engine near the bulkhead area) and moving the metal sleeve side ways, driver side or the passenger side. The cable passes through the metal sleeve. Well when I move it (Sleeve) towards the driver side the shifts became prolonged and more gentle but moving the sleeve the passenger side made them MORE jerky and harsh. So you ask what is my problem?? Well, I just can't seem to find the correct balance; I either have the shifts painfully slow that it feels like the transmission is slipping or I have to where the shift is extremely fast and jerky/harsh. When I say shifts I mean 3-4 shifts as the other shifts are perfect and are unaffected. The funny thing is that while I am test driving and adjusting, the engine is offcourse hot and so just when I seem to get the adjustment right, when I let the car cool down for a couple of hours and restart the engine and start going the darn thing seems to start at a completely new point ie starts to shift real slow with seems like slipping again.
I have searched this BB for a correct procedure for this and can't seem to find it. I do have the Haynes manual but the diagram it shows for this does not look like what I have in my car, I think it talks about older cars when the set up may be different. Any of you experienced in this and know the correct procedure for this for my model year('93)?? If you do know, please help.
