I got tired of locking the car by reaching through the back door so I finally decided to pull the alarm siren which has caused me so much grief. My car cannot be left armed for more than 30 minutes without it going off for 30 seconds at random and then shutting itself off. I wanted to just unplug the alarm ECU but I've had too many bad experiences that way and I saw someone else who had some....unpleasantness after doing so post about it a few days ago. So on Saturday I removed the left skidplate and pulled the wire to the "siren". Took the car home(can't work on cars in my complex's parking lot), locked it with my key, and was informed by my landlord at 1am that it had gone off three times so far. Well crap, so I disarmed the alarm and waited until I got another crack at it. This evening I removed all the skidplates and then moved on to the left front wheel well liner. There it was! Way up at the top of the compartment and damned near impossible to reach. I couldn't unscrew it,not enough room for tools and I couldn't find the plug, the wire ran straight into the siren. So I traced the wire through a hole into the engine compartment where it plugged in. All that time wasted on a job that should have taken 30 seconds!
The worst part? Well there are two, really. Number one is that while driving I had the occassion to find out that the first "siren" was really another horn buried down deep. Now the car sounds even weaker. So now I may invest in a nice set of air horns. Number two and even worse, is that the alarm can still be tripped and even though there is no siren the lights still flash and drain my battery. Back to reaching through the back door!
