Thank you very much, Robert.

Okay, here's what happened. I found the round thing in the middle of what I now know is called the "compressor pulley" (thank you.) I opened the doors and I set the AC to "ECON" which is assumed is what you meant by "low", and you're right...it spins, and does not go off. It no longer continued what it had done earlier, i.e. "clicking" on and off, on and off.

As for the buzzing noise a la wasps nest, that's a little tougher because everything makes so much noise in there! :) BUT...I let it run and run in an effort to identify which noise, if any, is coming from the compressor itself, and it's kind of tough for me to tell. After a while I did in fact think I could hear a wasps nest kind of buzz, but I can't be sure it's coming from the compressor. I have a stethescope, would that help? :)

I guess...and I do mean GUESS...that maybe if it didn't click off and on, off and on with the AC set lower and both front doors open, the system is working as it should? But I also realize that I'm probably missing a big piece of the puzzle by not being able to adequately assess any buzzing from the compressor. Still, if it IS buzzing, could you let me know what that would indicate, at your convenience, please?

Also, you seem to be extremely knowledgeable about these cars, so I wonder if you might be able to answer another quick question for me at some point. I keep reading about a "Bentley" manual which enables a Saab owner to learn about the car in detail and to perhaps do some maintenance work, etc. I'd like to take that responsibility on, but I'm wondering if that Bentley book is largely written for classic 900 owners and does not apply quite as significantly to the 9000's?

Thanks so much once again, Robert. You've been very kind to take the time to keep up this correspondence. You're a guy with a lot of patience!

Julia
