The Clutch Saga Continues...

The clutch from eEuroparts finally came today. When I came home, there is only an hour of sun light left. The old clutch was stamped Borg&Beck. This was the clutch which had a spring broken. It resulted in the broken spring stuck between the fingers of the pressure plate which stranded the car 10 miles from home a week ago. Strangely enough, the clutch that comes in the mail has the label Sachs/Borg&Beck. So I am at a loss as to who made it.
I quickly installed the clutch and assembled the transmission to the engine. Lucky me. It took me only one try to align the transmission shaft to the flywheel and the differential output shaft to the intermediate shaft. With the tranny bolted up to the engine, next I drained the transmission oil so I can put new oil in. To my dismay, the oil was pitch black and there is also some metal shavings on the plug. Somehow I don't feel good about this. I remember draining the transmission oil from a 82 Honda eons ago and recently the 86 BMW 325es a friend gave me last year, the oil in both transmissions has the consistency and color of honey. My 89 900S which burned to the ground last year wasn't bad either. Not this pitch black stuff of 10w30 I put in 40k miles ago. Other cars I own over the years, I never even bothered to change it. Could someone out there who knows lubricant enlighten me on this and/or give me peace of mind?
I'll intall the drivetrain early tomorrow morning.
