Hi, Butch.

I recently purchased (April) a 1994 Saab 9000 CSE (non-turbo), also a 5-speed. I've got a lot to learn about the car, (which is why I'm here), but I pretty much love it. I bought mine with about 103k miles, and I've gotta tell you...from my perspective, if that is a good, solid (no rust), mechanically sound car, you're getting quite a deal! I paid $7,000 for my car, and the dealer was asking over $8k. So I'd say $4k is a darned good price, if you've got a good clean prospect there.

That said, I'd respectfully suggest that you consider spending a little bit of money prior to making the purchase to take it go a REALLY GOOD SAAB specialist to have it looked over. I spent $100 doing so, but I saved a lot of money in the long run, because the dealer was about to sell me a car with 1/8 " brake pads and a bad blower motor, among other things. I came back to him with a list provided to me by the independent Saab mechanic, and he fixed all of the most pressing issues.

I think it's well worth the trouble and the money to do this, particularly if you are not exceedingly familiar with the 9000 yourself. I've still got issues cropping up, but I love the car, and I've decided to learn all I can about it so that I can do the easier repairs myself and so that I will be better versed if any major issues crop up.

Finally, as most folks here will tell you, it's really great to know that a car has been well maintained prior to your purchase of it, and for that reason if the owner of the car you're considering has the maintenance history available, that's a real plus.

I wish you well. Hope it's just the car for you. And if it's not, may you find it soon.

Julia
