I've had at least half a dozen different stereos in my 9000, all using just the sleeve. Ideally, you'd want the rear mounting strap as well, but I have never had a problem without it. The 9000 does have a little 'ledge' on the left side of the stereo mounting bay, and in most cases, the stereo case will rest on top of that anyway, for a very secure fit.
To give you plenty of access, remove both the ashtray/lighter assembly, and the trapezoidal bin at the bottom. Both can be prised out fairly easily with a flat bladed screwdriver around the top edge. The clips which hold in the ashtray are about 1/3 in from each side of the slot, the bottom bin almost jumps out.
