I just installed a 3" system from scratch using Zeke's recommendations for muffler, cat, and DP--the first two acquired from http://www.promuffler.com and the DP imported from Sweden. I ordered the parts, then had Midas install the 3" pipe between these components for $350. The result was excellent with just the right balance of tonal civility and throatiness, for my tastes anyway. My total cost was around $775, as I recall.
However, as Phil pointed out, the JP system is available for less and can be installed yourself, thus saving >$200. I don't know how the quality of the JP system compares with the fabricated system I have, but to put the components together in this fashion is dependent on the abilities of the fabricator, and no two jobs will ultimately look exactly alike.
But I'm not sure that opening your exhaust up to 3" in an otherwise stock system will help much, though I could be wrong. I only did it because I had to do it after installing an ECU upgrade that increases max boost to >20 psi. To reduce exhaust-gas temps (EGT) with this much boost it is necessary to enlarge the exhaust system to 3" at least as far as the end of the cat, though going further may not be required since temps have decreased substantially by that time. My system is 3" all the way back, however, except the tip which is 2½", reduced to allow the use of the stock Aero tip cover.
