Shift coupler procedure

Ok, I finally got mine apart. My home made (out of a c-clamp) pin extractor did not work, it just crushed the threaded end of the pin. Still tightly in teh tapered hole and would not budge or rotate. I took an air hammer with a blunt bit. It popped out on the first blast! This is an important key - use an air hammer. You cannot really whack it with a normal hammer or otherwise get to it. I extracted the old seal with a long thin screwdriver thrust between seal and shaft on driver side. After I did this, I pulled the selector shaft out towards driver compartment and polished the scratches I made on the shaft with 200 grit sandpaper. I pressed the new seal in with the blunt end of a torx screwdriver (T25). It would have been easier with an appropriately sized washer, but goes in pretty easily. I had to remove the battery, battery tray and turbo tube to get to it. I had to use a small mirror to see what I was doing. If your coupler is oil ravaged as mine was, it needs to be replaced. Now that I know what I am doing, it would not be this much of an ordeal next time, but I probably will not have to do it again...
