I've just fixed a waterhose leak on my wifes 1987,16V 900T Convertible and when I took it out for a test run I noticed the boost is only reaching a third of the way into the orange when a couple of weeks ago it ran up to the red line. What do you think has caused this? The last time I had problems was when the mass flow meter failed but the engine ran rough then and its running quite smooth at the moment but with reduced performance. Any quick and easy checks that I can do to find the cause?

On another note, I started to put together my modified 2.3 engine last nite and after I had torqued the main bearing caps down I found it quite hard to revolve the crank. I first thought it might have been too much stiction from the assembly oil I was using but decided to pull the caps back off and check the bearing shells. Number 2 shell showed signs of rubbing and when I gave the bearing cap a vey close inspection I found hair line cracks coming away from the 2 bolt holes in line with the crank. I'm exceedingly glad I took it back apart now!!! Could have been a costly omission.
