I had it happened to my '92. The '92 has a slightly different setup than your Aero. The front rubber hanger broke and put higher stress on the flex pipe and eventually broke the flex pipe.
In the '92, the whole front pipe has to be replaced because the flex pipe is part of the assembly.
The Aero (which I also have one), does not have rubber hangers near the front so if a rubber hanger fails at the rear, this puts more stress on the flex pipe and all the bolts that hold the system together.
However, I have a feeling that your flex pipe was probably rusted and the broken hanger led to the ultimate demise of the flex pipe section.
If it is only the flex pipe section, this is a relatively cheap part ~$90-150 plus labor of about half an hour or so. The rubber hanger is about $3-5 again depending where you get it.
I would suggest replacing both rubber hangers, they are cheap.
