After changing every component in my braking system, except for
the brake pedal, I've finally got brakes. I did learn, however, that
master cylinders can be changed and one does not need to buy
a whole hydraulic unit - which is contrary to what my local Saab
service manager said. Anyway, the reason I couldn't get a firm
pedal was because the back calipers were on the wrong side!
I noticed, while looking at pictures in the Haynes manual (don't
say it - I read, also!), that the bleed nipple was above the hydraulic
supply line. Being on the wrong sides, my bleeders were on the
bottom and probably enabled air to be trapped at the top of the
calipers. Oh well, I guess I'll never make that mistake again!
All it took was, once I swapped the calipers around, to gravity
bleed the back brakes and voila - firm pedal. Now, if I can get
my tach working, I'll be all done with this car. Here's the list of
changes to my '94 Aero:
engine and transaxle ('98 and '97, respectively)
pressure plate (Sach Race Eng'g), clutch, master, & slave
front suspension and brakes ('97)
rear suspension and brakes ('96)
steering rack ('97)
AC system (evap., cond., heater core, hoses, etc.)
all brake lines (new)
fuel return line
instrument panel ('97)
intercooler (KJ)
fuel injectors (Volvo V70's)
and software by Fredrik @ Maptun

This car, being lighter than the '92 CC that the engine was
previously in, is very fast - and now has brakes that will stop it!
