i switched to mobil 1 in my 95 9000 turbo 161k and notice slightly louder valvetrain noise. i used to own an audi quattro and 928 which both (especially the audi) valve lifter noise on start up. the tech i took both to recomended a product (which he actually sold at his shop) called Engine restore. It is designed to restore compression etc but is excellent at reducing valvetrain noise and is compatible with synthetic oil. i used it for quite a long time in both the audi and porsche with excellent results. i have done the same in my saab and the engine is now very quite when cold and hot. you can get this product at any automotive store and comes in 4,6 and 8 cylinder containers. its a silver can... around $5 usd for the 4 cylinder.. i would highly recommend
