idle troubles

I have a 93 9000 cse. I took the car into the shop for a head gasket replacement, and when it came out the car would not idle. The only way to get it to idle was to throw some zip ties on the throttle cable to act as a temporary stop. I was told by my mechanic (whom I dont have 100 percent faith in) that I need to replace the throttle body. Yes, its the one thats a pain in the ass, the one with the seven pin connection. So thats what I did, I called around the country and found a used one in colorado. I put the new one in and the car is still not idling. It is also still using the mechanical speed control, and not the electronic. Is there something I need to do to make the car recognize that i replaced the throttle body? or is it a totally different problem all together. If not, I suppose it could be that the used throttle body I got is not in 100 percent shape, because i think it is leaking coolant. Thanks for your time on this one guys.
