will be at least a dull red (around 1450°F) when engine is run hard. Look for test stand pictures. Thats why the oil will coke if the turbo is not driven down to let it cool. Most heavy equipment diesels have pyrometers to tell stack temp. with a red zone where you don't want it to get.
