Yes, I removed the T40 Torx head screw from the face of the rotor, as well as the deep-socket 10mm pin head screw. Personally, I don't think they attach to anything. The pin head screw is for aligning the wheel when you put it on the rotor, and the Torx head screw is just a plug. They are too short to pass through the full thickness of the rotor and then screw into something else (plus, there's nothing else behind the rotor).
I've also removed the caliper carrier (and caliper). Do I need to remove the nut on the end of the half-shaft (outer CV-joint) and large washer behind it? Is there anything extra since it's an auto (are the CV-joints the same on auto and manual)?
I don't think I'm missing anything else. I've replaced the rear rotors on my '85 Nissan 300ZX, and they just needed a good hard wrap with a hammer and chock of wood to get the seam of rust (around the inner rim of the rotor) to break apart. For some reason, this isn't working this time. Do I need to heat up the seam with a propane torch? Soak it with penetrating solvent?
Everything is pretty clean and non-seized on this car. I'm a little surprised the hammering hasn't helped.
Joe
