I don't have all the books, but near as I can tell the compressor signal on the ACC II comes out on pin 38 and goes to pin 10 of the EDU. Yep, the book shows it going through the EDU! I don't have any info though on how it gets from the EDU to the AC relay. Best I could suggest there is check the color code at the relay and find the same color at the EDU. Pin 38 at the ACC II should have Battery Post Voltage (BPV, thats what SAAB calls it!) in auto and 0 in ECON.
All I can guess is the EDU figures the A/C status into its mileage calculations.
