My 89s 5spd has a similar problem due to a leaking seal on the RH transmission output shaft. The aluminum tube you refer to is the intermediate driveshaft, which has internal splines at both ends where it attaches to the the trans shaft at one end, and the inner driver mounted in the bearing bracket at the the other. There is an o-ring which should prevent transmission oil which gets past the seal from entering the hollow driveshaft. My guess is that transmission oil is leaking past the stub shaft seal and into the driveshaft.
You may have more than one thing requiring attention. Because of your engine transmission swap, you want to be sure you have the correct bracket. My transmission had been converted from auto to manual by a previous owner and the bracket had not been changed. This may or may not be an issue for you. I wasn't able to find the right transmission seal when I had evrything out so I need to get back in there to fix the leak
