Hi,
I just did a swap on my 87 after the auto tranny died. The procedure is time consuming and requires these little bits that are best found on a parts car. I do believe that a 5 speed tranny is more reliable than an auto however the 240k miles reduces the 89's price tag to a "almost not worth it". Sorry. If this as a 91 or > perhaps the value would be inceases but older 9k T are dime a dozen and are equally not worth much money, however have great "utility" to their owners.
