rear ac on a 93 cse?

Awhile ago, my mechanic told me that Saab stopped the rear ac after 92 (this was when I was thinking of buying a new ACC unit on Ebay that had a rear air button.)
Recently I've been thinking of changing the cooling hoses -- over at Eeuroparts.com they describe the hose I have as being unique to some 92-94 9k's as a... UPPER RADIATOR HOSE (with nipple for a/c thermoswitch)...
Talked with John at Saab Savior and he looked in the book which says this hose was only used on cars that have rear air!
Now I'm faced with a dilemma -- I don't want to pay $100 for an upper hose when $8 will suffice, but I'm intrigued at the possibility of having rear a/c (so my wife doesn't yell at me when the kid starts sweating! ;)
Having removed the rear door panels I know there is a blower fan in there, but my mechanic told me that was only for defrosting the windows. Where would the vents be on a 93 9k that DID have rear a/c?
If I don't have those vents and have no way of getting rear a/c, can I just replace the upper hose with the $8 after market and forget the thermoswitch ever existed?
TIA
