Could be a lot of things Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Mon, 23 Sep 2002 12:26:35 In Reply to: 02 sensor?, darcyt, Mon, 23 Sep 2002 02:24:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The Check Engine light is a catch-all for any fault the ECU comes up with. Yes, it could be a bad O2 sensor, but it could also be a bad AMM, vacuum leak, fuel pressure problem..... Lots of things.
You can read out the fault codes in that year with a test light from the connector on the engine bulkhead. Check out the Townsend site (http://www.townsendimports.com) for more info, in the Technical Documents area. (http://216.78.172.244/engine_folder/24codes.htm)
But don't take the error codes as gospel. It still requires troubleshooting. For example, if you have a vacuum leak, the engine will run lean. The trouble codes may say a bad O2 sensor, because the output of the O2 sensor reads lean all the time, but the problem may be a vacuum leak or low fuel pressure. But it's a start.
Good luck!
