Yes, Zip did indeed recommend them some time ago. However, the real reason I went was to compare with a guy in Leighton Buzzard who had had his rather hot '93 2.3T CS on there a few days before (Abbott ECU, MBC, Abbott intercooler, Aquamist, etc...) and had made some impressive numbers. He reckons I can have his mods if I can catch him at the Abbott track day at Goodwood next month! I'll bring my spanners, of course, but he's a more experienced track driver than me (i.e. he's done it at least once before!), so he might be lucky...
Anyway, the good thing was that he only made 270hp on the same dyno (I specifically requested to use their 2WD dyno, as that was the one Mark used).
So, absolute figures and questions over drivetrain losses aside, my car is more powerful than his, which is nice.
Anyway, Bill, the current rate is £45 + "Victimisation And Theft" (V.A.T. for foreign readers), i.e. just under £53 all in. They didn't charge extra for messing around with the plugs. I'll agree with Zip that they really know what they're doing, and they are a nice bunch of guys.
Oh, and that "Viggen-style" dump valve I bought that day and fitted just before I went? Shot to bits (well, not quite literally but as good as) after 3 days. Put the old-style one back in and all the boost's back. Think I'll stick with these (only £17 a time from Euro Car Parts) until someone convinces me I need something more expensive. I haven't blown one of the old-style ones yet, and they seem to hold 1.6 bar quite nicely.
So will we be seeing you guys at Goodwood on 22nd October (a Tuesday), even just as spectators this time round perhaps?
