The "civilized" way of removing the mirror switch is as follows:
1. Remove the flat mirror select switch. It pulls right off. (This is the semi-circular tab switch that is towards the rear of the car and selects which mirror the forward positioning switch adjusts. It is not necessary to remove the positioning switch cap.)
2. Remove the small rectangular foam pad behind the tab switch. Use a pin or paper clip to ease it out of its recess.
3. The rectangular hole behind the tab is assymmetric with respect to the placement of the switch post. The larger area to the rear of the switch post gives access to the top of the mount retaining tab.
4. The top of the retaining tab is the rear most vertical plastic fin of the two that are separated by a rectangular space that is visible through the opening. Use a small tab screw driver to push the top of the tab towards the front of the car.
5. Viola!
