Having what looks like a bad radiator mounted 2 speed thermoswitch. It has been coming close to kissing the red line causing me to run the AC with the windows open so I won't freeze or the defrost at full heat. Being cheap (not a bad trait I think, it got my dad through the Depression of '29-33 ok) I have been trouble shooting each part of the low speed circuit and stumbled onto an easy way to test the relay, resistor, and motor. Pull the headlight relay out of socket (same as low speed relay) lift the low spd relay up so that it is still mostly in the socket. Test with testlight or meter to make sure blade next to the headlight relay is the grounding blade going to the thermoswitch. Ground that blade out with meter lead or jumper. That will give ground to relay and operate the fan on low speed.
I can watch the voltage on that blade start at 14.06 when rad is not hot, see the voltage decrease to 9.9 as the water temp is two needle widths from red line and I chicken out and do the shorting thing which lets the fan run as it should and cools down and shuts off. This interestingly enough shows that: Thermosw. has'nt a snap action to its switch anymore it gradually contacts giving a resistive ground to that blade side of the relay coil. Looks like a new T switch, the ground for the T switch is found behind the rt headlight assembly and I will check this for 0.0 ohms before I get the T switch.
