Set gap to .9mm (.035") and you will be fine. Obviously, you'll need a gauge, available at any auto-parts store. Many types exist--from blades, to wires, to graduated disks shaped like a silver dollar--and although I have all of these types here I usually use the latter because it's quick and easy. All of the types I have here are consistent with one another, so I doubt if one type is generally superior to the other in terms of accuracy.
If you use a blade or disk tool, you can use it to gently pry the electrode tip to achieve a wider gap, or to close it gently rap against some hard surface. Don't overdo it and ram your tip into the center electrode, but just rap gently 'til you get the feel of it.
