If after you wipe the grease out of the driver you find wear (indentations; see Townsend site) indicating it is bad, you need to remove the intermediate shaft carrier bracket (passenger side) or the mounting flange attached to the transmission(driver's side). The driver and bearing are held in these units by snap rings. I'm not aware of any step by step writeups other than Haynes, but it isn't that bad a job except, in my case, for the lower alternator bolt.
