I changed from 5k to 10k change rituals after doing two lab tests on the oil to determine the proper interval. I use RP (synthetic) 15w40 year-round in the Deep South, and the tests showed that wear metals were very low, TBN (total base number) good, and viscosity unchanged at 10k miles. Changing any oil at 25k intervals, regardless of brand, is poor advice. Be advised that Mobil 1 advertised 25k-mile intervals years ago but no longer do, nor do they recommend it.

Road & Track magazine stated that fossil oil should be changed every 3k and synthetics 10-15k under normal conditions. Driving in dusty conditions, prolonged idling, and frequent short trips before proper warmup will require more frequent changes. Some oil manufacturers recommend a filter change at 5k intervals, but I use high-quality (Delco UPF-53 synthetic fiber) filters and don't perform this interim filter change. The lab tests I've performed indicate the interim change isn't necessary.
