I just looked at the eEuroparts web site under "cooling system" and the OUT (bottom hose) of the heater core goes to the long tube over to the water pump (the suction end). The hose off of the head goes to the IN (top hose) of the heater core.
If you think about it makes sense. When the thermostat is closed, the water still leaves the head and goes to the heater core. The water pump pulls water from three inputs, the radiator, the expansion tank, and the heater core (the long tube). The output of the water pump goes directly into the block and up through the head. When the thermostat is closed, the water pump can't pull water through the radiator, but it can take water from the expansion tank, and from the heater core.
