Ideally, you should get a handbook from a Saab dealer because it will be stuffed with the sort of information you want. Many people also buy the Haynes manual for the 9000: this is British (like me) and therefore largely incomprehensible. But for starters:
(1) Cruise control. If you have this, the left-hand stalk will have a button on the end you can press, and a little rocker switch on the front face you can flip. To set the cruise speed, flip the rocker left to "on", go to the speed you want and press the switch on the end to set it. If you drop off cruise by braking or accelerating, you can use the rocker switch to resume your cruise speed.
(2) AirCon/ACC. Depends a bit on your year, but on my 1993 it works like this. First (I mean now for starters, not everytime you use the ACC) reset it while you are driving along, by pressing the top left-hand and bottom right-hand buttons, together, for a fraction of a second. The temperature display should go to "0", then the ACC will self-test, going through its various functions (watch the little lights) until it comes back on at the temperature originally set, but hopefully working properly.
If during this process a number appears – say "1", then "2" – the ACC is indicating that it has faults, and the number is not a faultcode as such – it just tell you how many faults are present. Sometimes the operation of resetting the system a couple of times will clear the faults, or appear to.
From then on, the easy way is just to select a temperature with the arrow keys. The temperature isn't a "real" temp, but a higher figure is hotter than a lower one. After this you need the book!
(3) The display with volts and stuff tells you the volts and stuff. Watch it while starting up. The various checks of ABS, SRS, engine and so forth should finish pretty quickly – if anything lingers or remains lit, that item has a problem.
(4) You know what fluids to check – all of them. Water, gearbox, oil, brake fluid, steering fluid, washer bottle and so forth – it's just a car! Once again, you really need the book for the details – for instance, with an auto transmission there is a sequence for checking the fluid level, ditto oil level. But you could always use the search facility on this board because almost every question under the sun will have been asked, probably five minutes ago.
Finally, always let us know the year of your car because lots of things change and it will help! Have fun - Bill
