The PCV split nipple and check valve is exactly what they're for: the vacuum in the intake tract scavenges the crankcase gases out the nipple and into the intake manifold, except under boost, then the check valve prevents pressurization of the crankcase when charged air compressed by the turbo. The check valve is like a traditional PCV valve - one way. You can check for operation by blowing air into it. Keep tabs on the direction. The valve can get clogged from dirty crankcase gases and oil mist blowing through it-it's only plastic. Also the nipple is plastic and the smaller outlet has a very small orifice [sized that way on purpose, I'm sure], that can also clog. If crankcase is being pressurized, it may feed oil into the combustion chamber or exhaust, but it should also pressurize the block so you'd get oil seepage from all the block seals and gaskets. Both are readily available.
