So I took Tim (my son) in my 94CS to pick up this 94CS turbo I won on Ebay in Quincy, MA. The truned out to be much better than I expected. May be my expectation wasn't high on somthing picked up at the last minute on blind faith. Since I have already paid them in full and went with my NJ plates, I simply took a brief look, went in, started the engine and drove away. Was kind of surprised to find there is no sunroof. But what can you do? Was dismayed to find it rides on 195-65-15 T rated tires. And they are still like new. Will change them to 205's and higher rated when they are done. Anyway, here is a run down of the blemishes I found.
1. The body is what you'd expect of a 94 SAAB 9k, excellent. Except the front molding on the driver side fender is missing. Overall, it is better than my other 9k.
2. The fuel gage is erratic so I don't know how much gas is in the tank. Before I fix it, have to use mileage to gage it. I may need help on fixing it.
3. The rear driver side window doesn't work. That shouldn't be too difficult to deal with.
4. The check engine light remains lit. Later I found out there are six flashes before starting. It points to problems with the O2 sensor. This may be a little more difficult to deal with.
Other than these, at 113k miles, the car ran excellent. Since the turbo/apc gage was completely new to me, I barely paid attention to it. All I go by is feel and how it compares to my other car with the NA engine. What a difference! The torque for the turbo starts to pickup at less than 2000 rpm. From that point on, power is available on demand of the gas pedal. Not that the NA engine will be gasping for air at high speed, speed fot the turbo reaches 90 to 95 mph at around 3000 rpm. The NA CS would be 4000 rpm at that speed. May be I am numb, I don't sense any lag at all except maybe at very low speed. But having been driving the NA CS for so long, I have no complains.
200 HP is plenty enough for me. I am happy. I guess I am easy to please.
