Car won't start, Fuel pump question

The car is a '95 9000CS
Last week I took my daughter to Music lessons and when it came time to drive home my car wouldn't start. My first thought was the direct ignition module. I took the module up to a Saab mechanic who tried it on another car and it ran fine. After reading here and talking with the mechanic it sounds like the fuel pump is the next most likely culprit.
Tonight I had a chance to look at the fuel pump. I could not hear any sound coming from the pump. I pulled the plug and measured no voltage at the pump and no continuity at the pump. I jumpered the fuel pump to the hazard lights and got voltage back to the pump. I got no sound out of the pump when I plugged it back in. When I tried to test for voltage again I had none, but by then I had heard a pop and had blown the fuel pump fuse. (the pop came after I unplugged the fuel pump)I'm not sure how that happened and coincidentally the hazzard lights didn't work. (Hmm,I just concidered that the headlights weren't on, is that neccessary for the hazard lights to work?)
My question is what is the resistance supposed to be at the fuel pump? I recorded 280 ohms at the fuel gauge sendor, but greater than 4 meg at the fuel pump. I expected something low but I just want to be sure that I'm not seeing something that is normal. It seems pretty clear, but at nearly $400 for a fuel pump I want to make sure there's nothing else it could be.
Are there any other possibilities??
Thanks for the help
Geoff
