Ouch, that's not a good sign, assuming the problem was the BassLink. To ensure that the BassLink system powered OFF when the radio is off, I had them get the signal from the poweramp under the passenger's seat, NOT from the speaker level inputs (that should work, but it's safer to use the dedicated lead instead of the signal leads).
I also make it a point not to listen to it for too long with the engine off and thus far, I had no problem with it... (over 3 months now).
I set the x-over at or close to 80 Hz as I wanted to make sure that voice frequencies were not sent to the sub. Besides that, it was a lot of back and forth, tweaking the other controls until I found something I could live with. Overall, the sub controls are set rather conservatively (well within the dynamic envelope of the sub).
I also set the bass controls on the radio slightly below the mid-point.
